If you want to pick up ATC frequencies or ADS-B data you’ll need an SDR radio connected by USB to a computer (mac or pc) or a raspberry Pi. You’ll also need some radio software that is either payware or free opensource. For ADS-B data I use dump1090 which is free and probably the best one. You need to also run Virtual Radar Server (free) to interpret the data and show it on a map.
A much better and thorough explaination of setting this up is found here and is the guide I used to set myself up. I use an RTL-SDR for ATC and a similar radio called AirSpy+ for ADS-B because its more sensitive.
